HAZARDOUS ELK
Jun. 7th, 2007 05:45 pmI heard a Canadian Tourism Ad on the radio in my car yesterday. The ad tried to put me in a sound picture in which I was on an amazing golf course playing the game of my life while sweet birds sang etc and an elk walked on to the course. And the tag was something like "and you don't mind an interruption in your game, because an ELK IS ON THE COURSE!" Followed by the call your travel agent spiel.
I'm not sure what your reaction might be, but were I on a golf course and an elk appeared, I would run like hell. Who wants to get kicked to death? Is there a baby elk over there? Wow these things are pretty fast OH GOD THE ANTLERS
There was another ad right afterwards in which I was instructed to picture myself paddling a kayak or canoe on Lake Louise having a peak experience. That didn't sound so bad except for the Implied Insects, which are universal in traveling anyhow.
But no elk for me, please.

The cuteness unto death

Pouss rolled herself up in the comforter for +10 cute points.
Last night at around 2 am the cat was prowling around as usual complaining about unreachable insects and promising noises in the forbidden outdoors. The sliding glass door to the back yard was open but the screen door closed, and several times she stretched up on the screen looking yearningly at the moths bumping into the porch light.
I had stopped paying attention to these antics for a while and then, around the corner of my laptop, I saw that another party had arrived. Usually this means that Dexter, the cat next door, has showed up to be a pest and taunt poor Poussin with her presence, but this was a smaller, darker, animal.
Nope, it wasn't Dexter. An opossum was squatting just outside the screen door peering at Pouss, who was peering back. Totally in silence, the two regarded each other without moving for three minutes or so. I was expecting a catsplosion of yowling rage or at least the predator stance, but the cat remained calmly sitting, as did her new friend.
Then, almost with a sigh, the opossum turned around and headed back out into the darkness of the yard. Pouss leaped up and leaned on the screen as the other animal toddled off in the awkward way those creatures have, like a drunk old man.
Then she curled up and slept on the couch.

Apr. 25th, 2006 11:31 pmAt first, the cat has managed to completely conceal herself using the coffee table, as she had intended.
However, she soon forgets that she has ears that protrude above her eye level. She can now be partly observed, and she's unaware of this fact.
Finally, she completely loses her discipline and much of the top of the head may also be seen. At this point I feel that she has given up on the whole idea of hiding.
