I'm voting for Obama.

I'm not convinced that either of the Democratic front runners will do much to make life here in the U.S. better.

I do think that Obama is likely to be less warlike, and in particular to scale back the war. The choice of candidate may feel disgusting to those of us who wanted a real anti-war candidate or for that matter a real Democrat. However, I feel obligated to do what I can to reduce the horrible carnage overseas.

If my vote contributes to a few thousand less dead, raped, injured, homeless, and impoverished in other countries, it's worth it.

1. Electile Dysfunction

The inability to become aroused over any of the choices for President put forth by either party during an election year.

"Is anyone appealing to you in this years presidential race?"
"Naa... No one excites me. I think I'm suffering from Electile Dysfunction."

My first election was Mondale vs. Reagan. The joke about that election applies to most of them since: Reagan was the evil of two lessers.

I saw Mondale Sunday at the HRC rally. We wanted to go to Obama too, but we didn't get up there in time. pooh. We had tickets for it and everything....

I think Obama means what he says, and it's clear he's got a very lively intellect. But you're absolutely right - he should never be mistaken for a liberal.

Is there, Howard Dean[*] excepted, a single 'real' Democrat in the US political pantheon?

Maybe we need to update that old blues song: Been Right so long it looks like Left to me.

[*] Dean, by the way, would be my main reason to vote Obama, if I could. Hillary would certainly bring Terry McAuliffe with her, and that man has been disastrous for the Democratic party. Dean's 50 state strategy - fighting the Republicans everywhere, all the time - is working.

There was Kucinich, and he was immediately marginalized for being an actual American Liberal. Not that American Liberal is anything like a real leftist, but it's now the far let here.

Ted Kennedy is a real one, but he's 1 million years old.
