..which is why most "track days" are done as "drivers education" events. Non-timed laps are not considered competition. Considering that BMWCCA (the bmw club) sponsors many of these, with factory backing, it's unlikely that the warranty will end up being voided just because you took a lap at Watkins Glenn. Yeah, entering a race will probably do so, but I know many people who do High Perf. Drivers Ed (HPDE) days and have not had warranty issues.

Likewise for lower speed things like autocross. Yeah, the black box can cause a warranty denial for missing shifts and what-not, but if you're driving that poorly it doesn't matter if it's on the street or not. They're not using GPS to track location, only the fact that you went from 4th to 2nd at 120mph and wrapped the tack needle around the stop :)

I don't own a BMW and I've taken a lap at the Glen. Albeit at 25mph behind a Pace Car but :)

It doesn't seem so bad to me that they don't want to pay for the repairs of people taking it onto a race track -- if you have enough money to buy a car like that and then go risking it and messing it up racing, you probly have enough money to pay for the repairs yourself.

I'd rather have one of these anyways.
