At least where I live, the wealthy children of the middle class have embraced rockabilly "white trash" style, big tattoos, 1961 tough guy facial hair, pimp and hooker and stripper outfits, and chopped fifties cars now pretty much totally. From a subculture it has become the culture for late teen/early 20s kids with money who want to annoy their parents.

It probably works pretty well. I ran across a nude and tattooed picture of a FOAF on myspace and after my initial appreciation for the arrangement of the pixels I thought "wow.. I wonder what her dad is drinking if he knows about this?"

The last time I can remember rockabilly/greaser culture being the dominant one around here was in 1981 or so, when we were waging little wars under an aw-shucks brylcreemed president.. hey! Now I don't have to ask any of you to deconstruct this!

March onwards, freedom hookers and victory pimps!

That's strange, I remember in the early 80s having a discussion about how culture was on a 20 year cycle. It's kind of sad adhering to second generation retro. And here there are perfectly cool subcultures waiting to happen, like Egyptian Futurism.

I once saw a cartoon with the caption:

STRAIGHT = GAY - 3 YEARS
GAY = STRAIGHT - 23 YEARS

With examples from different decades. Did the trailer trash thing start with gays? What are they doing nowadays?

I'm not sure if I understand the formula you have presented. Does this imply that it takes 3 years for gays to adopt straight culture and 23 for the other way. And what would that mean? Perhaps I am not the expert cultur dekonstruktor I had imagined.

Long story short you have to get the gay community to embrace Egyptian Futurism as soon as possible.

Got it! Look for the SpaceMummy (SM, for short, also known as Sit and Model, barely noticing all the attention he's gathering) performing in front of the Castro Theatre in SF.
