It's not typical for rain here to be annoyingly loud, nor for it to fill up my back yard an inch deep all at once. Yesterday we got both of those things.

When I was a little kid, and my mom first moved out, she moved into a house in Corona del Mar. She strung a hose full of holes across the back patio overhang, and at night she would turn it on so she could listen to the rain.
