We're coming up on NEVAR FORGET day, which we are supposed to call "Patriot Day". I think everyone is still afraid to make money off it in any obvious way. I remember the first anniversary, Hallmark sold cards. I give it 10 years before it's moved to a Monday.

At least Hallmark isn't selling theirs now.

On an unrelated topic, the latest spamdexing trick seems to be mirroring wikipedia articles on your site and then dumping ad banners all over it, so that when I search for a topic or phrase on Google I get many, many hits with identical text on them, none of which are the actual wikipedia. Thanks, guys!

I read an interesting blog entry on the Wikipedia spam problem — it might've been timwi, or it might've been someone else I can't remember — but the gist was that the spammers aren't as evil as they expect to be in this case.

The idea was that most people looking to read Wikipedia content need only a recent revision and not the latest, and Wikipedia's own servers regularly have trouble keeping up with demand, so the evilness is partially canceled out by being a free mirror.

I'm not sure I agree, but it's an interesting thought. I know that I've googled for some stuff lately, saw the spammer's copy, and thought "Oh, yeah, I can check Wikipedia for that" and went there instead of some other random webplace.

Also, PATRIOTIC COLORING PAGES DOT WTF.
