Well, it's not about whether it's more expensive than, say, california. It's a ratio of how much it costs to live there against how likely you are to get a job that pays enough.
california is horribly expensive, but there are also lots of good jobs.
dog bump alabama is very cheap to live there but it still sucks ass because there are no jobs. most of the country is in a big gray area in between
in that case... i would have to agree. the job market in portland is mostly crappy unless you are a waitress. and even then it helps to know someone...
