So what the hey is this "Emo" stuff, anyway? I'm an old music hound and I've been through quite a few trends, but this one has me hornswoggled.

it is short for "EMOtional music"

i hate the bands that play it, for the most part, but some of it is alright.

i think some nerdy kids who weren't getting laid invented it.

Eh, mainstream emo is annoying and very whiny for the most part. It's mostly skinny little guys who wear sweaters and horn-rimmed glasses. Think Dashboard Confessional.

I don't know if I'd call it "power pop" or not because I'm not certain of the definition of it. Maybe because the stuff I listen to doesn't really have a "power" feeling to it...most of the emo stuff I like is sad, acoustic, cry in your beer type music.

One emo/indie singer I like a lot would be Bright Eyes. I think his lyrics are really introspective and real, and his voice is very sad and pained.

I like his song "Something Vague" but I absolutely love the lyrics to "A Song to Pass the Time" because it reminds me of living out in the middle of nowhere with really empty-looking people and wondering if it's worth it.

Any time! I'm in your debt for making this an option for any form I ever fill out, for the rest of my life.
