barf. i couldn't even bare to gaze into what i know must be an incredibly annoying void beyond the title: The Deconstruction of the World Trade Center--A Date That Will Live in a Sliding Chain of Signifiers. academia and its never-ending population of pretentious, useless, serious-minded, know-nothing twits really ought look into to dropping dead.

Did you actually read any of it ? He was actually deconstructing the deconstructionists. This is a draft of a piece of fiction, i.e. a character is saying:

“But when the green meme, pluralistic relativism, postmodern poststructuralism--call them what you will--moved into academia and began to dominate the humanities, it was just a matter of time before these 'tenured radicals' would--sometimes innocently and inadvertently, sometimes openly and intentionally--be forging the language that would be used to justify terrorist 'insurrection' and 'rhizomatic power resistance' and 'deconstructive destabilization' everywhere. When that academic justification for those acts--a justification stemming from the green meme (and boomeritis) in America--was added to the actual red-meme terrorists acting in the world, the result was an atmosphere in which the West's cultural elite could not decisively condemn any sort of deconstructive insurrections, an ideological opening not lost on the insurrectionists and terrorists themselves, who have always equated so-called 'sensitivity' with weakness. [...]”

I have problems with the tone of the piece, but this was not written by some mindless spouter of poststructuralist gobbledygook. The author has his own style of gobbledygook, but don't confuse it with the viewpoints of his characters. Maybe it's confusing because the author is allowing his characters to ramble and on in paragraph-length sentences, not unlike they way Ayn Rand did in her books.

well, at least i openly admitted at the start of my vitriol that i didn't read it.

i irrationally and instinctively hiss and scratch everytime words like "deconstruction, ""meme," "post-," or "signifier" are used.

Yeah. I can't stand either the fiction or the explanation for it. Both the author and the character look at other people's intense suffering and say "Hey! This must somehow be about me and my neato theories!"
