What I find very interesting about Jimmy Carter (as an outsider) is what a remarkable mind and kind heart he seems to be, and as I consider why he was not re-elected, I think shit, people don't want smart and kind. They want plastic. I mean, Ronald Reagan was a wax figure. Why choose Reagan, or Bush I or II? Is it safer not to take that personal responsibility he suggests, and push instead all responsibility up to a benign, bordering-ridiculous father-like figure who will take care of everything, and let's not all worry our pretty little heads, rather than the kind of father that teaches you to live with integrity in the world?
