For me - supporting someone who makes stuff up to justify their positions isn't about ideology, it's about integrity. I don't think I do any friend of mine any good by supporting the parts of them that only do them harm. But that's just me, and maybe my aversion towards lies and the people who tell them has caused me to pass over friendships with otherwise wonderful people. I'll never know.
