The radio monitoring world is nerdy rather than political, and when ideology shows up it's almost always right-wing: crew-cutted middle-aged white guy thinking. But in general, it's off the table.

This week, however, Monitoring Times' "Utility World" blog asks the interesting question: What happened on June 26?

The short version, for those who TL;DR or aren't interested in radio geekery: the transmissions being heard indicate either an unusually large exercise, or preparations for war.

I am hoping that it's just more saber-rattling to scare the Iranians. Other possibilities are too creepy.

You'd think that after all the questions surrounding the build up to the last war, that any new type of action would at the very least have some Congressional oversight, but that's not how these guys think.

Yeah. They'd need a casus belli to start something but they can just pull one out of Dick Cheney's ass if they want one.

The assistant with this responsibility is an unfortunate bureaucrat.

and by "in limbo" they mean "at peace" I guess.

I also wonder sometimes about some imminent coup/revolution/putsch in Pakistan. Considering how many nukes they have, I bet any breath of an Islamist takeover there makes Washington genuinely frightened.
