My dad hung out with him for a bit about a year, and can report that he's virtually brain dead. They worked together (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Fleet_Project) in the early '80s, and Eddie has no recollection of it. And he can't construct sentences. And his guitar skills have gone downhill.

Burroughs used his whole life.

Heroin is a very stable drug. It only kills you if you fuck up the mix and O.D., or speedball, or something dumb like that. It makes you miserable as shit but it won't kill you.

Alcohol, on the other hand...
