I don't want to start shit, but my curiousity is getting the better of me. I must admit that I don't really see what all the fuss is about. It seems like a harmless enough amusement, and purely optional to boot, for one day out of the year. Is it the "nothing is any good if other people like it" syndrome, as another poster suggested? Or our Internet-fueled dissatisfaction with memes more than a few weeks old? Or just the embarassment of seeing people behave in a silly fashion in public?

I don't like dialect humor most of the time. It feels really forced to me. So the first time I saw "talk like a pirate day" it was okay but it gets more leaden each time.
