wlonkly showed me this thing called Affero which I think is very smart. Basically people can say you're a neat person if you're helpful to them over the internet (mostly in a technical way, probably) and they can also donate a little cash to your favorite cause or causes if they wish to do so. And so, you can put something in your email or usenet posting like this:

(that's mine) and maybe people can make you feel important or just help out your pet cause if they think you were particularly worthy of praise. Not many people using it yet, but I hope that changes.
