A discussion the other night about movie taglines reminded me of my favorite one. The film Howard the Duck was a terrible failure, one of the great failures of movie history as I understand it. However, the ads were great. There was the duck on the poster, poking his head through something and looking freaked, and the tagline was "Trapped in a world he never made."

Which was enough of an in-joke that I'm sure they didn't care at that point who didn't get it; the movie was already tanked.

Who remembers why they used that? And can quote the source? Hm? ;)

This is interesting. After [livejournal.com profile] eyeteeth's comment and a cursory web search I realized I totally had my head in my feathers. The Howard the Duck comic always did use that phrase, and I had totally forgotten this. So my "neat thing" was the other way around, a tribute to HtD from another Ohioan: the lyrics to the Pretenders' "Precious".

Howard the Duck and Mr. Stress both stayed
Trapped in a world that they never made

So I'm an idiot. But it's still a good song.
