I'm substitute at gmail dot com on that service. I have a Mac so IM only for me, no voice. Add me if you're interested.

I'm hoping it will be a good alternative to AIM. I can't stand MSN or Yahoo! messenger, and it would be nice to have a credible service to use when I don't want to deal with AOL.

It doesn't seem to want to go through an http proxy server, so I'm screwed. :-\

Is jabber support in os x tiger only?

Not sure; anyway, as far as OSX multi-protocol clients go, Adium handles Jabber, and is generally quite good.

In iChat it's only in Tiger I think. If you use Adium or one of many other free clients there's no prob

Yes. As far as I know, Apple never bothers backporting new features and Jabber support was added in the big 10.4 upgrade.

One good thing about this is that there's finally a Big IM Service that runs a standard protocol, and thus is unlikely to break clients like Adium, Fire, and Trillian, all of which have to keep tracking how MSN, Yahoo, and AIM are tweaking themselves.

Now if only I had a GMail account…
