Right.
My first impression is that the owner of these items wanted to produce a very small bonfire with the newspaper and oily rag (or is it just dirty? Probably just dirt, fneh) contained in the pot.
I would be curious if there is anything at hidden at the bottom of the pot, something that should be destroyed.
I would then climb into the house through the window in the kitchen, pick up the bag of chilis, get the old rope from the attic avoiding the gru, go back downstairs, forget the trophy case and the old sword (it is after all quite useless) move the rug to expose the trap door and enter the dungeon.

eat the path

Cross over the cell bars, find a new maze, make the maze from its path, find the cell bars, cross over the bars, find a maze, make the maze from its path, eat the food, eat the path.

Incorrect! The sword is quite useful against the troll; it makes a better weapon against it than the nasty knife. Plus you get the cool "glowing blue" warning effect. However, always bring both the sword and the knife, in case you run into the thief.
