A geographical area that corresponds roughly to the former Ottoman Empire latched on to the world popular culture of the 1980s and never let go. The pop music, fashion, and many other things remain in a permanent 1983.

They all signed a 30-year contract with William Gibson a couple of months before Neuromancer shipped to bookstores. It should be expiring in about 4 years, though, and it should be interesting to see how things shift.
