Oh, also--I have suggested it to others before and will do it again: Peopleware. Read it, understand it, love it, find relevant sections to copy your boss on (or just order it as an anonymous gift for the boss). This is an excellent book on proper work environments, improper work environments, warning signs, and (in most cases) how to fix things before it's too late.
